Let's Go to Iceland!

Getting ready for Arctic Nude

Important Info

  • You should try to book your ticket to Reykjavík (airport code KEF) so that it arrives on September 13th. (If you have problems with jet lag, please consider coming a day or two early and booking a local hotel for that night.) We do not pick up the van until the morning of the 14th so we will not be able to provide transit from the airport. However there is a very easy bus called Flybus/Reykjavik Excursions that goes directly from the terminal to downtown for about $28 USD. It is located right outside the Keflavík International Airport and it leaves 35-40 minutes after arrival of each flight. (The trip will take approximately 45-50 minutes.)
  • The best day to fly home is September 20th. If you need to leave the 19th, we should be back in Reykjavík by 8pm. (Note that that the bus to the airport is a 45 minute - 1 hour drive so please plan accordingly.)
  • Our transport is a 17-seater van with a pull-along trailer for luggage. Camera bags and personal items only on the bus please so we can conserve space!
  • A welcome dinner is provided on arrival day, September 13th. Breakfast, lunch & dinner are all provided September 14th-19th. Please note that we do not cover the costs for snacks or alcohol so you will need to bring some extra spending money for those!
  • Our main location (Höfn) is a 6-10 hour drive from Reykjavík. We will leave the morning of the 14th, drive a few hours (with a stop for coffee & snacks), continue until we stop in Vík for lunch, and then finish the day driving remaining distance, hopefully stopping in the moss fields or basalt rock formations along the way to shoot! (Will depend on the weather.)
  • If you have any dietary restrictions, please let us know ASAP! The diet in Iceland is mostly cheese, yogurt, meat & bread but our guesthouse will provide a variety of food (pancakes, burgers etc.) They are happy to accommodate gluten-free and dairy-free diets.
  • There will be a small presentation the night of the 13th with a "get to know you" section, so we would love if you were ready to share a little bit about yourself! :)

What to Pack

Prepare for the worst weather! We will try to avoid it but we will be shooting outside everyday, rain or shine. The usual temperature for Iceland in September is 40s/50s the and the winds can be very strong. Waterproof gear and clothes are a necessity.

  • Warm clothing (think layers): sweaters or long sleeves with a hooded rain jacket, plus waterproof shoes, boots, and pants! The taller the boot the more varied your angles can be.
  • Thin gloves to protect & warm your hands while shooting.
  • Converters for European outlets: bring multiples, both for 2-prong and 3-prong outlets.
  • Camera: DSLR or Mirrorless Interchangeable Lens Digital Camera or Film Camera. If possible, it’s a good idea to have two so that you have a backup!
  • Lenses: we recommend a wide angle zoom (like a 17-40mm or a 24-70mm) and a telephoto zoom (like a 70-200mm) to get the most varied points of view. The speed at which we have to shoot (for models' comfort) and the rugged terrain can make reframing a shot difficult.
  • Memory Cards / Film: bring more than you think you need, and then some!
  • Batteries & chargers.
  • A laptop with your preference of editing software: Lightroom, Camera Raw, Photoshop etc. There will be an afternoon presentation on Corwin's complete photo workflow, from image selection to toning, and he will be available to answer questions or give critique during that time!
  • Hard drives to back up your images
  • Lens Hoods: helps keep water off the front element and sun off the lens.
  • Lens cloths: the more the better!
  • Backpack style camera bag: either waterproof or with a waterproof cover.
  • Camera poncho: did we mention the rain and wind? :)
  • Tripod: for long exposures and landscapes
  • Filters: neutral density, polarizing, etc.
  • Model releases: we do not provide them so please bring your own if desired!

Please DO NOT Bring:

  • drones. They alert tourists as to our location!
  • lights & light stands. Iceland's overcast skies function as a giant soft box, plus they are slow and we don't want models to pose for longer than they have to!
  • umbrellas. The wind makes them nearly useless!
